One of the most difficult things to define is WELLNESS. Most professionals believe that health can be categorized into five general pillars:
Physical Health - Encompassing fitness, nutrition, weight control, drug and alcohol prevention, and medical self-care.
Emotional Health - The ability to cope with or avoid stress and emotional challenges. This is a very personal and unique pillar to an individual.
Social Health - How one connects to others and the ability to form and nurture these relationships.
Intellectual Health - Focuses on achievement in academics, career, hobbies, and cultural pursuits.
Spiritual Health - The “Why?” in all of this. Representing individual values, sense of purpose, love, or hope, this pillar is also extremely unique to each individual.
What makes it difficult is that every person requires a different balance between these pillars. This also makes WELLNESS beautiful. It is dynamic, ever changing, and unique to each individual. The world is in a constant state of flux and with that, the balance of WELLNESS will always be shifting. What was top priority at one time may be less important at another.
You know it when you see it, or better yet, you know it when you feel it.
